About Dr. Vargas

Dr. Victoria Vargas performs excision surgery for endometriosis at every stage, from superficial lesions to deep infiltrating disease. She works closely with colorectal, general surgery, and urology specialists when a case requires it, planning together before surgery so the full extent of disease is addressed in one operation.

She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Harvard Medical School Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals, then pursued fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at George Washington University under Dr. James Robinson and Dr. Gaby Moawad.

She went on to become the Director of the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery for Johns Hopkins Medicine in the national capital region, running a team specializing in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, with a focus on multidisciplinary care for endometriosis. She then started Washington Endometriosis and Complex Surgery in 2025 with her partners, Dr. Obias and Dr. McHale, with a goal of elevating the standard of care provided for patients living with endometriosis.

Dr. Vargas has an international reputation as a leader in the field of endometriosis surgery. She has had multiple leadership roles, including serving on the board of the AAGL Endometriosis Special Interest Group for the past 5 years, most recently as the President of the board. She has taught several courses for gynecologists on the topic of endometriosis surgery focused on disease presentation, complex surgery, fertility preservation, and the adolescent population. She is currently in the process of developing a nationwide multidisciplinary research consortium to advance the quality of research performed for endometriosis.

Dr. Vargas believes in partnering with her patients to create individualized, patient-centered treatment plans. She offers an extensive pre-operative evaluation involving dynamic ultrasound for radiographic staging of endometriosis to enable optimal planning and patient counseling prior to surgery.
